The discount retailer Lidl regularly offers interesting technology products, from televisions to PCs to cell phones. Lidl also had a Huawei smartphone on offer last fall, and the Ideos X3 sold like hotcakes.
The Chinese manufacturer’s smartphone may not be able to compete with the big players in terms of features, but it doesn’t want to, nor does it need to. Anyone looking for an affordable entry-level device or a second smartphone is worth a look. Along with the smartphone, a prepaid SIM card from LIDL MOBILE with 25 free minutes and one month of free internet is included. The Huawei Ascend Y200 will also be available at Fonic starting May 7, 2012.
Android and low storage capacity
The Huawei Ascend Y200 runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and an update to Ice Cream Sandwich isn’t planned. Inside is an 800 MHz single-core processor, along with 256 MB of RAM and 512 MB of internal storage. This can be expanded up to 32 GB with a microSD card. Unfortunately, the memory card isn’t included, but it doesn’t cost the earth. It’s clear that the Huawei Ascend Y200 isn’t a rocket, but then again, you simply can’t expect that for this price.
Plastic, but well-made
The 3.5-inch touchscreen is slightly larger than its predecessor (the Huawei Ascend X3) and, despite its relatively low resolution of 320 x 480 pixels, impresses with a surprisingly sharp display—at least as long as you’re not standing in direct sunlight. A 3.2 MP camera is located on the back. The Huawei Ascend Y200 also supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and has a built-in radio. While the smartphone’s plastic casing is debatable, the build quality is good and solid.
The Huawei Ascend Y200 offers excellent value for money. It’s a nice entry-level smartphone that dispenses with unnecessary bells and whistles. Tech freaks certainly won’t be happy with it, but overall, the Huawei Ascend Y200 is a very solid smartphone that’s nothing to be ashamed of.
