Life's Journey

As we walk through our stress enforced lives, we see only possessions,
We see our past; our childhood, our partners, our friends,
We see our present; our jobs, our goals, our dreams,
We see our future; never ending.

As we mature through our childhood, we learn the way of the world around us,
We see our past; our experiences, our disappointments, our achievements,
We see our present; impatient, demanding, un-compromising,
We see our future; distant, exiting.

As we start on our own paths, we see only our own desires,
We see our past; our childhood, our mistakes, our regrets,
We see our present; our immediate whims, our dreams, our children,
We see our future; open ended.

As we see our lives shaping, we see how we’ve grown,
We see our past; the people we’ve met, the places we’ve seen, our memories,
We see our present; our homes, our families, our friends,
We see our future; our rest, our retirement, our grand children.

As we walk through the valley of death, we reflect on our journey,
We see our past; our mistakes, our victories, our regrets,
We see our present; our wisdom, our realisation, our despair,
We see our future; nothing.

Epilogue

If we live for today, we ignore what may come tomorrow,
If we life for tomorrow, we ignore the wonders of today,
If we do neither, we deny the miracle that we’re here at all to have that choice,
We all end at the same destination, though we all take a different route.
