A Collection Of Random Errata

Instead of doing a separate blog post for each minor update I've decided to roll them all into one post in the order that they occur to me. I guess I could have tried to create some narrative out of them but it'd be pointless and forced so a simple errata list is the result.

I've Got Gas

I always believed I didn't have an option for gas, until my flat was listed as being in an area that was getting a refit, some queries started to happen, and some inspectors came out for a look. It turns out I had gas all along, it just required a supply number and an account set up. It'd been sitting dormant so long that the council didn't know about it. The short story is that since Monday afternoon I've got gas.

Let There Be Light

This afternoon I finally got my kitchen light in working order again. Around four months ago my kitchen light, the strip variety started getting a bit temperamental when I'd want to switch it on with more flickering than was usual. Once I managed to make a cup of coffee before the flickering stopped, at which point I knew I had to replace either the bulb or the starter. In the meantime I used a desk lamp next to the kettle. While this was bright enough where I needed it it was a bad angle to work from, and only planned as a stop gap.

I Quit Smoking Two Years Ago Today

I spent most of my adult life as a smoker from the age of sixteen. For the last seven or eight years I gradually noticed that I wasn't even enjoying smoking even though I kept doing it. I decided to quit, and tried multiple times with several different aids, and got various short term results. Ultimately what it came down to was finding the right key to unlock the door at the right time to make it stick. Over the years I narrowed down what could work for me, and what wasn't going to work.

No Alignment Left Behind

I find it curious that left alignment is the default setting on many applications even now that computer logic has been able to justify text very easily. Many years ago it was understandable if a low powered terminal received a series of words from a telegram and worked out where to start the next line by counting how many spaces the line had left, and how long the word was. If there was limited memory in the device it had to get the words out as new ones were coming in.

It Works!

Yes that is the default Apache install htdocs page title, so why did I use it as the title of this review? Well, it rather sums up the Duronic radio rather nicely.

Abusegate

Why is it that when a scandal of any type breaks in the news the word "gate" is tagged onto the end? I understand where the reference comes from, but I have to wonder if they do. It refers to the Watergate Scandal in 1972-73 which brought down US President Richard Millhouse Nixon. The term Watergate had nothing to do with water, nor gates.
