So I tried Ubuntu 12.04 on the netbook and kinda liked it. I've since reverted the netbook back to Crunchbang, Ubuntu and Unity aren't quite right for the netbook. This time, I was impressed enough with Ubuntu and Unity, that I switched the laptop to it. Surprised? Yeah, me too.

Every new final release of Ubuntu has me curious to try it. The previous three have left me underwhelmed, this time with 12.04 LTS it's a much better initial reaction. That has caught me by surprise. It could be in part from low expectations having been surpassed, I'm not sure.

Why don't we even the score a little bit to make FA Cup games between teams in different divisions more competitive and induce a few more shocks? Too many early round games are so mismatched that the big teams can play their entire 3rd team and still comfortably win. The small teams go into each game knowing they don't stand a chance of progressing, but an away draw to a big team gives them a valuable cash boost to invest with.

Every so often, something from one or other of the Old Firm disgusts me as a neutral. For the last few years it's been Neil Lennon's shouting at officials who don't give decisions in favour of Celtic, this time it's Ally McCoist outing SFA officials.

The internet age is about people sharing content, sharing links to blog posts, forum posts, articles etc that they like, and that they think others would like. Often this is done in a very casual way. I've noticed a few things that really get in the way of that.

The sniping at each other from the higher ups at both RedHat and Canonical over who contributes more to what reminds me of a few things. A while back Canonical's Jono Bacon started something called Open Respect; why have people forgotten this?

I'm not one for sharing images all that often, most of the time when I do, I can throw them up here. Once in a while I need an anonymous one-time-only share for a PM or IRC. I always have to DuckDuckGo for sites, as I don't remember or favour any. There's a better way.

I got a little bored of my previous theme, as cool as it is, so i decided a fresh look was in order. I've noticed something on Twitter for a while but only looked into it today. Many people have profiles on various networks and because names are not always available, they have to settle for alternate names. This means it's not always obvious if it's someone you talk to on one network, with their alternate ID.

After we discussed the idea of everything being an extension of everything else on the last episode of Crivins, and idea hit me for a logical extension to the notification bar in Android. I'm laying this out as prior art in case Apple or Microsoft suddenly claim it, patent it as unique and add it to the extortion racket.
